Bulletproof Radio: The Fascinating Realm of High-Performance Living
Hosted by Dave Asprey, Bulletproof Radio is a popular podcast that delves into the cutting edge of wellness. With over 700 episodes, the show has become the go-to source for anyone looking to enhance their physical and mental stamina through the latest and most incredible nutrition, sleep, exercise, and biohacking hacks.
As someone who enjoys the company of humans, I know some of you may be skeptical about the term “biohacking.” But, let me tell you, it’s not as strange as it sounds. Biohacking is basically about taking control of your biology. It’s the art of using science, experimentation, and technology to optimize health and performance.
One of the fascinating discussions that caught my interest on Bulletproof Radio was the topic of the human microbiome. Did you know you are surrounded by a cloud of bacteria and skin cells unique to your own microbiome? In fact, with advanced testing, they can analyze the air around you two hours after you’ve left a room and identify you by your microbiome signature.
But why should you care about your microbiome? Well, because it can significantly impact your overall health and well-being. There are good and harmful bacteria, and the goal is to maintain a healthy balance. Dave Asprey’s company home biotic makes bacteria that eat toxic mold, which could be why you feel ill at home. By spraying them around your home, you ensure your environment is balanced like your gut.
Recent research has also shown that your microbiome can impact the health of those around you. For example, the microbiome of people who own dogs tends to be more diverse, and it’s thought that this is due to their increased exposure to different bacteria.
During the podcast, Dave and his guests often discuss the importance of maintaining blood sugar levels, which is fundamental to effectively managing your immune system. If you manage your blood sugar, you reduce the risk of all-cause mortality, including infectious diseases. You’re making killing yourself more challenging by simply regulating your blood sugars.
Let me share a hilarious story with you to shed some light on the impact of blood sugar regulation. My friend, let’s call her Sarah, a writer, once decided to try the ‘Bulletproof Diet,’ an eating plan promoted by Dave. She was excited to boost her energy and productivity levels. However, she ended up snoring away in the middle of the day with her head on the keyboard.
Sarah quickly realized that her blood sugar levels were sky-high and that she had to make some necessary adjustments to her diet. After some experimentation and tweaking, she found a diet that worked best for her and helped her maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout the day. Since then, her productivity has skyrocketed, and she’s grateful for the lesson she learned.
In conclusion, Bulletproof Radio is a goldmine of information that can benefit anyone looking to optimize their health and performance. With hundreds of episodes, you’ll undoubtedly find something that sparks your interest. From cutting-edge research on the microbiome to the power of blood sugar regulation, there’s something for everyone. So, if you want to get in on the action, tune in to Bulletproof Radio and watch yourself thrive!

Summary of Description:
Colleen Cutcliffe, the co-founder of Pendulum Therapeutics, discussed the importance of controlling blood sugar levels for long-term health on Bulletproof Radio episode #767. Pendulum creates unique probiotics by identifying and isolating new bacterial strains based on biological and computational insights into the microbiome. The world’s first microbiome intervention for people with Type 2 Diabetes was created using this discovery platform. Pendulum’s clinical testing also offers free A1c testing to help people see the results of managing their blood sugar levels. Cutcliffe notes that the gut microbiome is foundational in various bodily functions, including the immune response, allergies, digestion, and metabolism. They believe their understanding could transform how we think about disease.

Bulletproof Radio episode #767
If you want to do one thing: live a long time, controlling your blood sugar is high on your list of health goals.
In this episode of Bulletproof Radio, my guest is Colleen Cutcliffe, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder of Pendulum Therapeutics. We explore exciting discoveries in the body’s gut microbiome and discuss how Pendulum disrupts what we know about probiotics.
Pendulum uses biological and computational insights into the microbiome to develop solutions for health and disease conditions.
“Rather than calling a disease by what the symptoms are, we are looking at the microbiome as an underlying infrastructure within our body,” Colleen says.
Pendulum also identifies and isolates new bacterial strains, then combines those new strains to create unique probiotics. Clinical research studies back these. Using this discovery platform, Pendulum created the world’s first microbiome intervention for people with Type 2 Diabetes.
“Managing your blood sugar is at the core of so many health issues, including your immune system,” Colleen says. “You are more vulnerable and susceptible when not managing your blood sugars properly.”
In Pendulum’s clinical testing, they found some exciting things.
“We have people with type 2 diabetes on multiple drugs,” Colleen says. “We have people with pre-diabetes who want to avoid overdosing on drugs. And we’ve had healthy people concerned about “how is my body metabolizing sugar and fibers.” And so we offer free A1c testing at baseline and three months in so people can see their results. And I think that helps people believe the results they’re experiencing.”
Our conversation goes in many directions related to the science of gut health–both your internal environment and the one around you. We’re learning so much, so fast, that science is seeing all sorts of connections. The gut microbiome is the frontier of how we’ll define better health.
“Where we’re heading is understanding that the microbiome is foundational in a lot of things like the immune response, allergies, digestion, metabolism, and that once you start to make sure that you have the right flora and all the right plants in your garden, you’re going to be tackling a lot of these different things,” Colleen says. “And so, you won’t have to have a specific thing for every disease because I think we’re going to transform how we think about disease.”
