Summary of Transcript:
The video is about an update on Metformin and Berberine, and the speaker shares his personal experience with Metformin, stating that there is little evidence to suggest that it can extend the human lifespan and that it has negative effects on the body, such as interfering with exercise and reducing testosterone levels. He then explains that he switched to Berberine, a CR mimetic that could have an additive effect on all the other things he’s already doing to control his blood sugar levels. The speaker recommends an online course on longevity for those new to the field and mentions the potential of the longevity movement in the news lately.

Metformin: A Promising Longevity Drug?
Metformin has gained much attention as a potential longevity drug in recent years. It is a medication commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes, but studies have shown that it can also positively affect aging and age-related diseases.
One study published by the American Diabetes Association found that metformin use was associated with a significant decrease in all-cause mortality and a reduced risk for cancer, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disease.
My Metformin Experience
I decided to try Metformin and started taking it with intermittent fasting a couple of years ago. At first, I experienced some mild gastrointestinal side effects, but those disappeared after a week.
Overall, I felt pretty good about Metformin. I maintained a stable blood sugar level despite consuming more carbohydrates and noticed some improvements in my physical performance during exercise.
However, after a few months, I began to worry about Metformin’s potential long-term side effects. Some studies show a link between Metformin use and vitamin B12 deficiency, which can lead to neurological issues.
Is Berberine a Better Choice Than Metformin?
After some research, I decided to switch to Berberine, a natural supplement with similar effects on blood sugar regulation as Metformin.
A few studies directly compare Berberine to Metformin, with some showing that Berberine may be just as effective in improving glycemic control and insulin sensitivity with fewer side effects.
My Berberine Experience
I have been taking Berberine for about a year now and have had no negative side effects. I have noticed similar benefits to Metformin regarding blood sugar regulation and exercise performance.
Overall, I feel comfortable switching to Berberine, but I am always open to reevaluating my supplement regimen as new research emerges.
Conclusion
Metformin and Berberine promise options for improving glycemic control and other age-related health issues. While Metformin has been studied more extensively, there is growing evidence that Berberine may be just as effective with fewer side effects.
Ultimately, deciding which supplement to take should be based on individual considerations such as medical history, current health status, and personal preferences. It is important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen.
As for me, I will be sticking with Berberine for now, but I will continue to monitor new research and reassess my options as needed.

It’s been 2 years since I updated Metformin or Berberine. Yikes! Time to do an update. In the last video, I was on the fence about taking both. Now that I’ve got experience with both, I share my thoughts on each and explain why I tried one, quit, and then tried the other.
And that’s where I’m going to stay for now.
