Polyphenols are things like tea and coffee and spices and herbs and things like that so that you won’t raise your insulin. Still, you will get some polyphenols that are good for the gut, and so that kind of fast is called an intermittent energy restriction quickly, where you’re not eating for some time. Still, you’re getting some polyphenols in, and that’s good for healing the gut, and then there are other kinds of fasts where you want to do autophagy. You want to do ketosis, and for that, you want to keep your protein down, your carbs down, and your fat up so you’re not fasting from the food. You’re fasting from glucose. So if you don’t raise your glucose, you’re still getting the benefits of fasting, and that’s what I call the bulletproof protein fast, so it depends on what you’re trying to do.
In this YouTube video, Dave Asprey discusses the various types of fasting and how one can fast without experiencing pain or hunger. He explains that fasting means to go without for a set period and that one can fast from many things, such as masturbation, porn, alcohol, junk food, carbs, and animal products. He states that the loosest definition of fasting is going without but that certain parameters should be followed when it comes to metabolic or dietary fasting. He explains that some people fast to heal the gut, so they should have water plus polyphenols, such as tea and coffee, which are good for the soul. He also explains that for autophagy and ketosis, one should keep their protein and carbs down and their fat up and that if one doesn’t raise their glucose, they are still getting the benefits of fasting.
