Ep. 255: Women’s Midlife Health: What Do You Need to Know?

Summary of Ep. 255 Navigating Women’s Midlife Health with Kristin Johnson & Maria Claps:
I don’t want to say she dismissed it, but she said it was stress and depression. I just felt like I was being dismissed and I was like, no, I’m not depressed. I don’t feel like I’m depressed. I’m just tired and I’m exhausted and I can’t do the things that I want to do. I just felt like there was no answer and I was really frustrated. Then I started to do my own research and that’s when I found Maria. She was the first person who I felt like really understood what I was going through. She had gone through it and she was able to help me, so that was a huge turning point for me. Cynthia Thurlow: Yeah, I think that’s so true. I think that’s why I found it so important to have this podcast, to really be able to provide a platform for so many of these stories, to be able to provide a platform for people like you to be able to share your stories, your experiences, what you’ve learned and to be able to educate and empower. I think it’s so important that we have this conversation, because I think the traditional narrative is so damaging and so disempowering. I think it’s so important that we have this conversation and that we’re able to share what we’ve learned, because I think it’s so important that women feel empowered to take control of their health, rather than feeling like they’re victims of the traditional narrative. In this episode, Maria and Kristin discussed their backgrounds and their work empowering women in midlife and beyond, sharing their knowledge on changes in metabolic homeostasis, nutrition, strength training, hormone replacement therapy, and the importance of testing. They aim to help women stop or prevent their health from spinning out of control and provide an alternative narrative to the traditional one around aging for women.
