Jocko Willink

John Gretton “Jocko” Willink is an American author, podcaster, and retired United States Navy officer who served in the Navy SEALs. He was born in Connecticut on September 8, 1971, and grew up in New England with his two siblings.

During his time in the Navy SEALs, Willink received the Silver Star and Bronze Star for his actions in the Iraq War. He commanded SEAL Team 3’s Task Unit Bruiser, which fought in the battle of Ramadi – one of the most intense urban battles U.S. forces had been engaged in since Vietnam.

Willink is a co-author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win and has written several other books about leadership and personal development. He is also a co-founder of Echelon Front. This leadership consulting firm helps organizations develop better leaders and teams through their unique approach to training based on lessons learned from warfighting experiences.

Willink is also well known for his podcast Jocko Podcast. He discusses topics such as discipline, leadership, business strategy, mental toughness, motivation, and more with guests from various backgrounds, including entrepreneurs, athletes, authors, and military personnel.

Today Willink continues to inspire people worldwide with his message of extreme ownership while helping organizations become better leaders through his consulting firm Echelon Front.
