Fatty Liver & Arthritis Link: Dr.Berg

If this year has taught us anything, our health is worth investing in. We’ve all heard of the importance of caring for our liver, but did you know that doing so could also prevent arthritis? That’s right, there’s a connection between fatty liver and joint inflammation, and it’s not pleasant.

Let’s take a closer look at the science behind it. The liver has different stages of damage, starting with a fatty liver, progressing to inflammation, and ending in Cirrhosis. During this process, fat in the liver can spill over into other organs and tissues, causing inflammation throughout the body. This inflammation can trigger rheumatoid arthritis and worsen insulin resistance, leading to even more systemic inflammation.

But it’s not just the inflammation that causes arthritis. When Cirrhosis occurs in the liver, bile production becomes hindered, leading to bile getting trapped in the liver. Bile is like a powerful detergent that keeps the liver clean, so when it can’t flow properly, inflammation in the liver worsens. And if that wasn’t bad enough, a lack of bile production means that essential anti-inflammatory nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, vitamin A, and vitamin D are not being absorbed. Without these vital nutrients, pain and stiffness can become unbearable.

So what can we do to prevent this chain reaction from happening? The answer is clear: take care of your liver. But how can we do that? A healthy diet is a great place to start. Incorporating leafy greens, garlic, and turmeric can help detoxify the liver. Supplements like milk thistle and dandelion root can also aid in liver function.

But let’s get personal for a moment. I used to eat a lot of processed junk food and often ignored the importance of caring for my liver. As a result, I began to experience joint pain that I never had before. After researching, I realized that my negligence toward my liver was the root cause of my discomfort. So I consciously tried to clean up my diet and incorporate more liver-supportive foods. And within weeks, I began to feel a difference. My joint pain lessened, and I felt more energized and healthier overall.

In conclusion, the connection between fatty liver and arthritis is a scary reality, but it’s not one we have to face alone. By taking proactive steps to care for our livers, we can prevent joint inflammation and live healthier lives. So let’s commit to eating well, exercising, and giving our livers the love they deserve. Our bodies, and our joints, will thank us.

Summary of Transcript:
The video explains why people with fatty livers may develop arthritis. Arthritis is caused by inflammation in the joints, which can occur due to cytokines produced by fat in the liver causing systemic inflammation. There are different stages of liver damage, starting from a fatty liver to Cirrhosis. Cirrhosis can trap bile in the liver, leading to more inflammation. The lack of sufficient bile also leads to the inability to absorb anti-inflammatory nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins. Therefore, protecting and caring for the liver is essential to prevent arthritis and inflammation. The video offers a link for a recommended diet and a keto consultant to help with diet-related questions.

Summary of Description:
This video explains the connection between fatty liver and arthritis. Liver fat creates cytokines that increase systemic inflammation, leading to joint inflammation and arthritis. Bile gets stuck when the liver is inflamed, causing even more inflammation and nutrient deficiencies. Additionally, the feedback loop between insulin resistance and inflammation worsens the condition. The video suggests a healthy ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting as a solution and advises consulting a physician before changing one’s health regimen or diet.

Keto and IF Basics:

This video will discuss why people with fatty livers often get arthritis. What is the connection between these two conditions?

There are different stages of liver damage: fatty liver, fatty liver with inflammation, and Cirrhosis.

Arthritis is inflammation in your joints. How does the inflammation get from the liver to the joints?

There are several mechanisms in play here. Liver fat creates cytokines, which are proteins that cause inflammation. The particular cytokines that liver fat produces increase systemic inflammation—or inflammation throughout your body.

These cytokines released by liver fat are why you can get inflammation in your joints and arthritis when you have liver disease.

To make things worse, cytokines can worsen insulin resistance. Insulin resistance makes getting rid of fat very difficult and increases even more systemic inflammation. This is a feedback loop that gets worse and worse.

Bile gets stuck when the liver is inflamed and filled with scar tissue. In turn, this can cause even more inflammation and nutrient deficiencies.
