How to Achieve Gut Health

Gut Health is the condition where your body’s digestive system is healthy, functioning properly and free of disease.

In order to achieve good gut health, it’s important to eat a varied diet that supports a diverse bacterial population and a healthy immune system. Eating a plant-based diet that includes a variety of different fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts is essential to support a healthy microbiome.

It’s also essential to consume a lot of fiber and prebiotic foods, which feed the good bacteria in your gut. This includes fermented foods like kefir, sauerkraut and kimchi, as well as prebiotic-rich vegetables such as onions, garlic and asparagus.

Limit red meat and fried foods, which are high in saturated and trans fats that promote inflammation in the gut and can contribute to weight gain, heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases.

Avoid processed and refined foods, which contain chemicals that are harmful to your microbiome. Stick to fresh, unprocessed fruit, vegetables and wholegrains that are high in fibre and nutrients.

Drink plenty of water to help flush toxins and other unwanted materials out of your gut. You can also use a probiotic supplement or make your own kefir or sauerkraut to boost the amount of beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract.

Get enough sleep, which can help balance the number of bacteria in your gut and reduce symptoms such as bloating, gas and abdominal pain. Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep per night.
