Have you ever stopped to think about the food you put in your body daily? Many are busy and prefer convenience or comfort over nutritional value and health. However, according to Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, also known as “The Diet Doctor,” it’s time for us to get back to eating real food and eliminating the processed, fake foods that comprise a large portion of our diets.
Dr. Eenfeldt believes there’s no difference between physical, spiritual, and mental health. If something works for the body, it works for the body overall. And what works for the body is real food. Unfortunately, in today’s world, it isn’t easy to know what real food is since 60-70% of our calories come from white flour, white sugar, and flavorless semi-synthetic seed oils. These empty calories have no nutritional value and contribute to health issues like type 2 diabetes and obesity. Therefore, aiming for real food when shopping and preparing meals is essential.
Real food includes meat, fish, poultry, lamb, and pork. Dr. Eenfeldt believes these are the foundation for human nutrition. Our ancestors were hunter-gatherers, and meat was a staple in their diets. Meat has high protein and nutritional value and is essential for building muscle. Of course, variety is essential, and Dr. Eenfeldt encourages people to try new meats to get all the different nutrients available.
In addition to meat, vegetables are a crucial component of a healthy diet. Vegetables are high in vitamins and minerals and low in calories, making them an excellent choice for any meal. Dark, leafy greens like kale, spinach, and broccoli are incredibly nutritious and should be a regular part of your diet.
On the other hand, grains should be consumed with caution. Dr. Eenfeldt notes that humans aren’t designed to eat a lot of grains. Paleo’s philosophy suggests that grains are not essential to human health and should not be a significant part of our diet. The problem with grains is that they’re high in carbohydrates, which can lead to insulin resistance. Insulin resistance means that the body resists insulin, a storage hormone, causing glucose to be converted into fat stores. A diet high in grains can lead to weight gain and contribute to health issues like heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
So, while grains don’t need to be eliminated, they should be limited and consumed cautiously. Whole grains, like brown rice or quinoa, are good choices since they’re higher in fiber and nutrients than refined grains like white bread.
Finally, Dr. Eenfeldt recommends avoiding processed, fake foods marketed as “health foods.” Many of these Frankenstein Foods have been manipulated and processed to appear healthy, but in fact, contain hidden sugars, unhealthy fats, and artificial flavors. Be sure to read labels and avoid foods containing high sugars, unpronounceable ingredients, or additives like MSG.
In conclusion, it’s time to get back to basics regarding food. Eating real food, including meat, vegetables, and limited grains, is essential for optimal health. Avoiding processed, fake foods and hidden sugars will help you maintain a healthy weight and avoid chronic health issues. So the next time you’re at the grocery store or ordering takeout, choose wisely and prioritize natural, whole foods. Your body will thank you.
